    Side work news

As I mentioned in a couple of previous posts I have been doing a weekly podcast over at Podcasternews.com The show is a brief look at the top 10 films at the box office for the past weekend, and the upcoming premiers for the following weekend.

This past week my show over there was one of the ones HBO selected to be included in their promotional campaign for their new series 'Big Love'  that starts March 12th immediately after "The Sopranos".
For the next two weeks, my podcast there at Podcasternews.com will be sponsored by 'Big Love' the new series from HBO that explores the complicated life of a modern day polygamist. With these promotions on my show that turns me into a "professional" podcaster, I guess.

    Updates #2

So I moved to Arizona. I am back working with old friends I worked with before and am very happy with my work situation. Working with friends in a small company doing cool work. Building a mobile app for PocketPC for one of our clients right now which is cool new stuff for me.

Now even more .. I am doing some side stuff in my spare time. I just started bloggin over at Droxy.com and I am alos hosting a SHORT weekly podcast over at Podcasternews.com

So now my spare time is even less than before. And any that I do have I spend with my almost 9.5 month old son, who is crawling really good now and getting into everything. I already put the child locks on the cabinets in the house here in AZ. He is really pulling himself up on everything and can stand with support very well.

    Freelance coding sites

Well Jason Calacanis has a post with a bunch of links to different coding sites.

I have looked at some of these, but never register and signed up fo rany of them yet. I need to take a deeper look at them. But the other thoughts about having to manage the people there more and having to get a second person to inspect the code, make me think it is just people hacking out the requested piece.

There is a major difference between hacking out some code and someone designing and developing code in a structured way that would be useful in the future as a base for extending the systems.

If it is just people hacking stuff together (this is just playing devils advocate, I AM NOT SAYING that is how they are, I need to look into them more before I could say anything with some research backing it up) than I guess I would never have any sucessfull bids for things I would want to code as the extra time and effort for design for extendability would make my bids be too high.

Oh well just some thoughts on something I found interesting. I will have to do more checking on these sites and if I find anything definitive one way or the other I will try to post my finding.

New MS starter kit - Shareware Starter Kit

Well by way of a post at the microISV blog today I heard about a new starter kit from Microsoft. In his post Brian linked to more information about the kit.

The one link he gives to Dan's post annoucing the starter kit has two links to download the C# and VB.net Versions of the kit in it.

It looks like it could be a usefull tool for microISVs and other share ware application developers as well.

Check it out.. I plan on trying to play with it this afternoon and see if it is something that I should / could use it in my app I am currently in desing phase on.

    Another Anti WalMart Reason

Well from all places I found a post on the PodChef blog that links to an aritcle in a paper about WalMart refusing to release some pictures.

I guess if you take good digital pictures don't take them to WalMart for printing.

    Segway around the World (Showcase)

Blogger and Podcaster Kevin Tofel (KCT's digital world, commutecast and TechAddiction) whom I have been listening to for a while, and have ongoing communications with, recently had a vacation and was given a Segway Tour at EPCOT by his better half Barb.

He posted a great well written review of the experience on his blog. Check out his entry to read some first hand experiences.

I will really have to take this tour sometime Kevin makes it sound like such a great time.

    SQL worst practices

Well I just read an Article that lists the ten most common data access mistakes.

It has some really good advice in it. many of the mistakes I already knew (and actually try NOT to do ) but there was also some new things I will have to keep an eye out so I can avoid doing them.
